Background
Many of us have different definitions of home but at its core, home is the background for many memories. As technology continues to evolve, smart home technology has the ability to redefine what "home" means. To explore this relationship, we sought out to explore how these two spaces intersect.

Many of us have different definitions of home but at its core, home is the background for many memories. As technology continues to evolve, smart home technology has the ability to redefine what "home" means.





Key Insights
Most notably, we learned that smart home technology must automate intelligently to users' routines and space, but oftentimes, automation can clash with the sense of autonomy people want in their homes. This led us to ask, how might we design interactions that enhance the feeling of home?





Initial Ideation
From there, we began ideating with the goal of enhancing the feeling of home using smart home technology. While our ideas varied, we were drawn to ideas that centered our two key concepts. This is where Amora came in.










Artifact Development
Drawing from the idea of connection, our artifacts and graphics are designed with converging angles and forms that symbolize people coming together.





User Testing
In order to validate our concept, we sought out to test whether projection was a viable method of showing instructions and whether they could effectively guide users through the cooking process.















Solution
Each cooking station includes a pair of overhead devices, the Amora Hubs, equipped with cameras and a projector, along with a cutting board, pot, and pan enhanced with weight and temperature sensors.
On the parent’s side, Amora captures qualitative and quantitative data from their cooking using computer vision and transforms it into actionable instructions for the child. This reimagines home cooking as a connected experience, offering a new journey for the child and opening up opportunities for meaningful conversations across distance.
